International League
Hayden Penn, Ottawa

Penn had already been a prime candidate for a callup to the Major Leagues when the rosters expand in September, and his performance this week effectively punched his ticket to the bigs. Last Monday against Pawtucket, the 21-year-old allowed a run over 5 2/3 innings while striking out eight. Penn was even better against Syracuse on Saturday, as he struck out 10 over eight shutout innings. The righty is 7-4 on the season, with a sparkling 2.26 ERA.

Pacific Coast League
Anthony Reyes, Memphis
2-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 13.0 IP, 9 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 17 SO
Reyes has been remarkable since returning to Memphis after a stint with the St. Louis Cardinals. The 22-year-old earned a pair of wins this week, tossing six shutout innings against Round Rock on Tuesday and seven more against Nashville on Sunday. Reyes allowed just nine hits over this span, while striking out 17. He is expected to rejoin the Cards in September.

Eastern League
Glen Perkins, New Britain
2-0, 0.75 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 12.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 16 SO
Coming into the week, Perkins had failed to pick up a win over his last 10 starts, and was just 2-11 on the season. The left-hander won twice this week, however, so maybe his luck is finally starting to change. Perkins was magnificent against Connecticut on Monday, allowing just one hit over seven shutout innings while striking out 10. Five days later, the Minnesota native allowed a run on four hits over five innings as the Rock Cats defeated Portland, 6-1.

Southern League
Jeff Niemann, Montgomery
2-0, 0.69 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 13.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 14 SO
Niemann, the Devil Rays' first-round draft pick in 2004, won twice this week to run his record to 5-5 on the season. The 23-year-old tossed seven scoreless innings against Jacksonville on Monday as the Biscuits rolled to an 8-0 win. On Sunday, the Texas native allowed one run on three hits over six innings as Montgomery defeated Birmingham, 9-5.

Texas League
Kevin Olsen, Midland
1-0, 1.00 ERA, 1 G, 1 GS, 1 CG, 1 SHO, 9.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO
Olsen's 12th start for the RockHounds was his best yet. On Sunday, the 30-year-old tossed his first complete game of the season, allowing one run on four hits as Midland edged Corpus Christi, 2-1. Olsen is 5-1 with a 3.94 ERA on the season; in the month of August he is 3-0 with a 2.67 ERA in five starts.

California League
Andrew Baldwin, Inland Empire

Baldwin was one of two Phillies prospects traded to the Mariners in exchange for veteran lefty Jamie Moyer. The 23-year-old switched from the California League to the Florida State League in the process and seems to have adjusted well to his new surroundings. Baldwin has picked up a win in each if his first two starts for the 66ers -- hurling seven shutout innings against High Desert on Tuesday and eight more against Bakersfield in Sunday. Baldwin allowed just seven hits and a walk over this span.

Carolina League
Clay Buchholz, Wilmington
1-0, 0.00 ERA, 1 G, 1 GS, 6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 10 SO
Buchholz made his debut with the Blue Rocks on August 18, after going 9-4 with a 2.62 ERA in 21 starts for the Greenville Drive. He made his second start on Thursday and was lights out. The 22-year-old allowed just two hits over six shutout innings while striking out 10 as the Blue Rocks blanked Myrtle Beach, 6-0.

Florida State League
Justin Mallett, Sarasota
1-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 10.1 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 10 SO
Mallett didn't allow an earned run over 10 1/3 innings this week. The 24-year-old earned a win on Tuesday, surrendering four hits over 5 1/3 shutout innings as the Reds edged Tampa, 1-0. Four days later, the 6-foot-7 righty yielded an unearned run on three hits over five frames, but Clearwater came back to win the game, 3-2.

Midwest League
Burke Badenhop, West Michigan
2-0, 0.75 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 12.0 IP, 11 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 SO
Badenhop picked up two wins this week and now leads the Midwest League with 14 victories. Last Monday, the right-hander allowed a run over six innings as the Whitecaps defeated Lansing, 3-1. He was even better against Fort Wayne on Saturday, scattering five hits over six shutout frames as West Michigan coasted to a 3-0 win. Badenhop's 166 innings leads the league, while his 2.82 ERA ranks ninth.

South Atlantic League
Wilkins Arias, Charleston
1-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 14.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 7 SO
Arias turned in a pair of near-identical starts this week, as he tossed seven shutout innings on both Tuesday and Sunday. The 25-year-old earned the win against Savannah on Tuesday, but had to settle for a no-decision on Sunday in a game the RiverDogs eventually won, 1-0. Arias is now 8-6 on the season, with a 3.13 ERA over 135 innings pitched.

New York-Penn League
Fernando De Nabal, Aberdeen
2-0, 0.00 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 10.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 6 BB, 5 SO
After 12 appearances without a victory, De Nabal picked up two wins this week. The 22-year-old fired five hitless innings against Hudson Valley on Monday and followed that up with five more shutout frames against Staten Island on Saturday. De Nabal's ERA in the month of August is 2.12, a full run lower than the 3.12 mark he posted in July.

Northwest League
Aaron Breit, Eugene
2-0, 1.64 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 11.0 IP, 10 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 9 SO
Breit earned wins in back-to-back starts this week after going winless in 14 appearances. The 20-year-old righty tossed six innings against Spokane on Monday and allowed two runs over five innings against Everett on Saturday. Breit is now 2-2 on the season.

Appalachian League
Sergio Severino, Greeneville
1-0, 1.50 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 12.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 14 SO
Severino, the Appalachian League's strikeout leader, pitched brilliantly this week. The 21-year-old allowed two runs over six innings against Pulaski on Tuesday but did not factor into the decision. Five days later, Severino allowed just two hits over six shutout innings while striking out eight as the Astros blanked Kingsport, 6-0.

Pioneer League
Jeremy Haynes, Orem
2-0, 0.87 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 10.1 IP, 9 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 SO
Haynes had it his way this week, as the 20-year-old picked up two wins against Great Falls and lowered his ERA to 2.84 on the season. The right-hander allowed a run on three hits on Monday before firing 5 1/3 shutout frames on Sunday. Opponents are batting just .198 against Haynes this season, and he has struck out 60 batters over 50 2/3 innings pitched.
