April 26, 2011

PORTLAND, ME - Michael Lee limited Binghamton to two hits over six innings and Oscar Tejeda homered and tallied four RBI to send Portland past the B-Mets 8-2 at foggy Hadlock Field Tuesday night. Jordany Valdespin led Binghamton with a 2-for-3 showing including a double and an RBI. The four-game set is now even at a game apiece.

Mark Cohoon matched Lee through five innings, but ran into trouble in the sixth inning. Ryan Lavarnway doubled to deep center with one out. After Chih-Hsien Chiang flied out, Cohoon walked Will Middlebrooks. The walk proved to be a bad omen. Tejeda was next to hit and smacked a three-run homer over the Maine Monster in left to break the scoreless deadlock.

Cohoon exited to the loss after six innings. The southpaw allowed three runs on six hits, walked two and struck out four for his first loss of the season.

Portland (6-9) put the game away in the seventh inning with a feverish five-run outburst. Edgar Ramirez replaced Cohoon and allowed the first three men to reach courtesy of a pair of walks and a single. Tim Federowicz made Ramirez pay with a bases-clearing double to left-center, upping the lead to 6-0. Ramirez exited in favor of Roy Merritt, who allowed an RBI double to Middlebrooks and an RBI single to Tejeda to round out the inning's scoring.

Binghamton (6-9) tallied its only runs in the eighth inning off reliever Santo Luis. After allowing a one-out single to Carlos Guzman, Luis walked back-to-back hitters to load the bases for Valdespin. The B-Mets shortstop came through with a ringing single to right to get the visiting team on the board. Satin drove in Binghamton's final run with an infield single to first, providing the final margin, 8-2.

The Sea Dogs outhit Binghamton 12-7 and were led by Tejeda who was 3-for-4. Satin put together a two-hit showing for the B-Mets and added his ninth RBI of the year.

The B-Mets will attempt to take the upper hand in the third game of the four-game set Wednesday at 6:00 PM. RHP Brad Holt (0-0, 0.50) gets the call for Binghamton against RHP Alex Wilson (2-1, 5.14) of Portland. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show begins at 5:45 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
