Potomac and Salem Suspend Play in the Fourth

Red Sox Lead 6-0 over Nationals
May 8, 2012
(SALEM, VA) - Tonight's contest between Salem and Potomac has been suspended due to rain the middle of the fourth inning with the Red Sox leading 6-0. The game will be resumed tomorrow starting at 11:00 AM.

The Red Sox got going early against Potomac starter Adam Olbrychowski. Jackie Bradley Jr. led off the contest hitting a 3-1 pitch opposite field for a homer to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead -- his third home run of the season. The number two hitter Sean Coyle also hit his third homer of the season but did so in a very different way. He hit a ball to dead center that hit off the base of the 20-foot wall and squirted back to the infield. Coyle just beat a throw with a hook slide to make it 2-0 in favor of Salem.

The first continued with Travis Shaw and Brandon Jacobs knocking singles while Xander Bogaerts walked to load the bases. Christian Vazquez hit into a fielders choice that which scored Shaw. Jacobs scored on an errant throw and it was a 4-0 Red Sox with just one out. The barrage continued with Michael Almanzar doubling and scoring, along with Vazquez on a Adalberto Ibarra's single which increased the lead to 6-0.

Coming off two quality starts in a row, Olbrychowski failed to finish the first inning getting just two outs while equaling a career-high with two homers against. He ended his day yielding all six runs in the first earned, walking two and striking out one.

Salem starter Miguel Celestino started the game very strong tossing four shutout innings. He struck out two Nationals and gave up just one hit.

In the middle of the fourth at 8:10 PM, the game was stopped due to rain. At 9:11 PM, the game was suspended after a rain delay of one hour and one minute.

Tomorrow the P-Nats and Red Sox will complete tonight's game starting at 11:00 AM. That game will be nine innings. In game two which is slated for seven innings, the P-Nats are set send LHP Robbie Ray (0-1, 10.38) to the hill for his first road start in the Carolina League.
