Raptors Record Second Straight Shutout

Nishijima Earns Seventh Win
August 16, 2012
BILLINGS, MONT. The Ogden Raptors threw their second straight shutout, winning 7-0 against the Billings Mustangs Thursday night at Dehler Park.

Ross Stripling started the game for Ogden. In two scoreless innings, he allowed just one hit and struck out two. Seth Mejias-Brean hit an infield single but was part of a 1-6-3 double play, ending the second inning.

The first pitcher out of the bullpen was Kazuki Nishijima. The lefty pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out four. Robert Maddox singled in the fifth but was caught stealing to end the inning as the Raptors had faced the minimum number of hitters through the first five innings.

The Raptors finished with Jason West. The right-hander allowed one hit and one walk, striking out three to finish out the shutout.

The Raptors have not allowed a baserunner to reach third since Ty Linton scored on a Jake Lamb double, a streak of 19.1 innings.

The Raptors scored early with three in the first inning. Delvis Morales singled to center on the first pitch of the game, extending his hitting streak to a Raptors season-high 13 games. Eric Smith then followed with a walk. Three batters and a wild pitch later, Corey Seager singled them home with a hit to center. During Justin Boudreaux's at bat, Billings catcher Fray Sosa tried to pick off Seager on first. His throw was high and went into right field. Jon Matthews misplayed the ball and right and Seager came all the way around to score, giving the Raptors a 3-0 lead.

Boudreaux hit an RBI double in the sixth for the only extra-base hit for the Raptors, and Morales had the only multi-hit game with three single.

Jeremy Rathjen walked in the sixth inning to extend his on-base streak to 33 games, the most for a Raptor since at least 2004.

The Raptors will put their scoreless innings streak on the line against Billings Friday. Carlos Frias takes the mound for Ogden against Amir Garrett. Game starts at 7:05 and can be heard on AM 1280 The Zone.
