Rasmus heading to Cardinals' camp

ST. LOUIS -- Though the final tally may yet receive a few more tweaks, the Cardinals have assembled their list of non-roster invitees to Spring Training. The list features plenty of interesting names, from big league veterans on Minor League contracts to the organization's Minor League pitcher and player of the year.

The current list includes 24 names -- 11 pitchers, six catchers, four infielders and three outfielders. The number of catchers is always high early in Spring Training because somebody has to catch all of the pitchers in camp.

Top prospect Colby Rasmus headlines the list of outfielders, joined by prospects Nick Stavinoha and Amaury Cazana Marti. D'Angelo Jimenez and Josh Phelps, both Major League veterans, will fight for infield jobs along with Cardinals organizational veteran Rico Washington and David Freese, acquired in the Jim Edmonds trade.

The list of catchers includes highly touted prospect Bryan Anderson and free-agent signee Mark Johnson, as well as Nick Derba, Gabe Johnson, Matt Pagnozzi and Brandon Yarbrough.

The 11 pitchers feature an intriguing mix of prospects and veterans. Among the youngsters are the organization's top three upper-level pitching prospects -- Mitchell Boggs, Jaime Garcia and Chris Perez -- recent top draftees Adam Ottavino and Clayton Mortensen and 2007 organizational pitcher of the year P.J. Walters. The veterans are Dewon Brazelton, Hugo Castellanos, Ron Flores, Cliff Politte and John Wasdin.

TV schedule released: The Cardinals announced their television schedule for the 2008 season on Wednesday, and 161 of the 162 games are scheduled to be televised by one outlet or another. FSN Midwest has 130 games, KSDK TV-5 will carry 20 games (19 on Sunday afternoons) and nine are currently scheduled for national broadcasts on either FOX or ESPN. Two games remain unscheduled for TV, but the club expects them to be picked up -- both September contests against the Cubs.
