Rasmus, Marti power 'Birds past Z's

Redbirds outfield lifts team to win

The Redbirds outfield combined to go six-for-13 and drove in six of the team's seven runs in the 'Birds 7-4 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs Wednesday.

Outfielders Colby Rasmus, Joe Mather, Amaury Marti and Nick Stavinoha were major contributors in the win. Rasmus and Marti each hit solo home runs while Mather tripled and knocked in two runs. Stavinoha singled in a run and later doubled. Brian Barden led the club with three hits while he, Marti and Rasmus all scored two runs each.

Right-hander Mike Parisi started the game for the 'Birds and allowed three runs on eight hits. He walked two and struck out three in 5.1 innings. Ron Flores, Jason Motte and Chris Perez combined to finish the game, with the Zephyr's only other run coming off Motte in the eighth.

On the day the 'Birds had 12 hits and left six stranded. The team will continue it's spring training schedule Thursday when they face the Las Vegas 51's in Jupiter, FL.
