Rating the Six-Year Free Agents

Spending six years in the Minor Leagues likely means a vast quantity of teammates and opponents. Since being drafted in 1999, Todd Donovan has played with and against a lot of players who are now, like him, Six-Year Free Agents.

With that in mind, MiLB.com asked the outfielder to make his picks of the best Minor League players now looking for work. Choosing only players he's played with or against, here is TD's Six-Year Free Agent All-Star Team:

PITCHERS

Steve Watkins (CLE): Big league stuff, big league mind, great guy, great role model.

Brad Baker (SD): His changeup is so good, it can only be compared to that of Trevor Hoffman. Ironically, Trevor Hoffman was the only person keeping him out of the big leagues.

Joe Horgan (WAS): Nasty stuff. Left-hander, will pitch in any role, a good pitcher.

CATCHER

Jonathan Aceves (CWS): Even opposing batters can tell he calls one of the best games ever. He can handle a big league staff.

INFIELD

Caonabo Cosme (NYY): He made big strides with the A's and Cardinals a couple of years ago. I'm not sure how he did the last two years (Editor's Note: Cosme hit .265 in 2005 with Columbus), but he was a good baseball player.

Graham Koonce (PIT): All you hear about is how this guy can hit (178 HR, 780 RBIs in Minor League career).

Bobby Scales (SD): No love, no press, great guy, great baseball player. He's a winner. Good numbers over the years in limited roles. He has a career in baseball. His only knock is the inability to play one position exceptionally. A great utility guy.

Rico Washington (TB): Solid all around. Could and should have a long big league career. Has a lot of respect among players. Underrated defensive player, Gold Glove potential.

OUTFIELD

Luke Allen (LAA): One of the few bigger power guys left in baseball who plays hard. He hustles and plays every play as if it were Game 7 of the World Series. Someone may think about putting this guy on the mound. He has a cannon for an arm, and he throws a heavy ball.

Shawn Garrett (OAK): Solid baseball player, big leaguer. In my mind, a true five-tool player, along with the fact that he plays hard. His only knock is that he lacks "flash." Someone needs to give this guy a chance.
