Rattlers shutout Clinton to wrap successful road trip

July 30, 2012
CLINTON, IA - Matt Miller and Stephen Peterson combined on a seven-hit shutout at Clinton on Monday night at Ashford University Field. Nick Ramirez contributed three RBI, including a two-run homer, in the 7-0 win over the LumberKings.

Max Walla hit a solo homer with one out in the top of the first inning to give the Rattlers (62-43 overall, 18-18 second half) a 1-0 lead. The home run was the 27th hit by the Timber Rattlers this month.

The LumberKings (45-60, 21-15) almost answered in the bottom of the first inning against Miller. Ji-Man Choi singled to left with one out and Chris Taylor at second. Taylor attempted to score, but left fielder Ben McMahan threw out Taylor at the plate for the second out of the inning. The assist was the eleventh of the season for McMahan.

Wisconsin padded their lead in the third. Brandon Macias drove in two runs with a double in the top of the third inning. One out later Ramirez lined a two-run homer to left-center and the Rattlers were up 5-0.

Miller tossed six scoreless innings and scattered five hits. He worked around two walks and struck out three batters.

Wisconsin added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning. Chadwin Stang started the inning with an infield single. That hit extended Stang's hitting streak to 14 games. He would take third on an errant pickoff throw. Later in the inning he would score on a throwing error on a play at second base.

Ramirez knocked in the final run of the game with a single. Ramirez drove in seven runs in the final two games at Clinton to give him 55 for the season.

Peterson worked the final three innings in a scoreless fashion to record his third save of the season.

The Timber Rattlers wrapped up their six game road trip to Kane County and Clinton with a 5-1 record.
