Rawhide Hold On Late, Win 4th In A Row

Visalia holds off Lancaster in the 9th to win 8-7
July 6, 2012

LANCASTER, CA - The Rawhide allowed three runs to come across in the bottom of the 9th, allowing the Lancaster Jethawks to pull within one run with the tying run in scoring position. However, Bo Schultz was able to strike out Grant Hogue to eliminate the threat, and seal an 8-7 victory over the Jethawks on Thursday night at "The Hanger".

The Rawhide offense got off to a hot start once again in the 1st inning. Gerson Montilla and Mike Freeman each hit solo home runs off of Jethawks starter Zachary Grimmett (L, 3-6).

Keon Broxton also hit a solo shot, coming in the 4th inning to put the Rawhide up 4-2.

Rawhide starter Andrew Chafin allowed only three hits in four innings pitched, however he walked a season-high seven batters. Luckily, Lancaster was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities, going 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position and stranding 12 men on base.

The Rawhide strolled into the bottom of the 9th with an 8-4 lead. However, a couple of infield hits and a fielding error by Jon Griffin put the Jethawks within striking distance.

Bo Schultz was able to keep his poise and strike out Grant Hogue to end the game and lift the Rawhide to their 4th win in a row. The 'Hide remain in a first place tie with the Modesto Nuts for the second half lead.

The Rawhide will go for the series sweep on Friday night at 7 pm.
