Red Hot PawSox Win 5th Straight

August 28, 2010

Pitching was the key to success tonight for the Pawtucket Red Sox, as PawSox pitchers combined to shut down the Rochester Red Wings 2-0 in front of 10,228 fans at Frontier Field.

Kris Johnson got the start and tossed 6 strong innings for the PawSox. The lefty had 6 strikeouts as he improved his personal record to 5-13. Chad Paronto and Dustin Richardson both came in and each pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Robert Manuel came in for the ninth and gave up a lead-off double to Matt Macri and then managed to retire the next three batters for his 12th save of the season.

Rochester starter Cole DeVries pitched well, allowing only three hits in 5 1/3 scoreless innings. The PawSox scored on Niuman Romero's single off of Jose Lugo in the seventh, then added a run on Jeremy Hermida's sacrifice fly in the ninth.

Josh Reddick remains red hot for the PawSox going 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles. Both Jarrod Saltalamcchia and Jeremy Hermida went 1 for 4 in the game.

The PawSox have one more game Sunday before returning home to McCoy Stadium on Monday for a two game series with the Red Wings and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. PawSox starter Adam Mills (3-9, 5.05) will face Rochester's Kyle Gibson (0-0, 1.72) in a game starting at 1:05pm.
