Red Sox sign Jonathan Diaz to Minor League Contract

The Boston Red Sox have signed infielder Jonathan Diaz to a minor league contract for the 2013 season.

Selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 12th round (360th overall) of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of North Carolina State, Diaz made his professional debut with Auburn of the New York-Penn League in 2006, playing in 73 games. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 2009 with Las Vegas. In 2010, he appeared in 51 games at shortstop, 45 at second base and one at third base for New Hampshire as well as 28 games at shortstop for Las Vegas. Diaz may spend time with both Portland and Pawtucket in 2013.
