Cards' starter Lance Lynn was victimized by no run support, taking the tough-luck loss. Lynn (9-3) allowed just one unearned run on five hits over seven innings. He walked just one and matched his season-high with seven strikeouts, the third straight start he's fanned seven.
The only run of the game came in the sixth inning, when Rex Rundgren singled to open the inning, taking second on a bobble in right field by Tyler Henley. After Drillers' pitcher Adam Bright failed to get a sacrifice bunt down, Anthony Jackson doubled down the left-field line, scoring Rundgren to make it 1-0. Lynn settled in and popped up the next two hitters, as the run was ruled unearned.
The Cards had only one base-runner over the final three innings, as Steven Hill had an infield single with one out in the ninth against Edgmer Escalona. Escalona recovered to strike out Tyler Henley and pop up Tony Cruz to earn his fourth save in four tries.
Reliever Adam Bright (1-1) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief.
Tulsa starter Jhoulys Chacin was removed after one perfect inning, due to what was being called "precautionary reasons".
Springfield (13-12, 51-44) looks to end their current three-game slide on Thursday, sending Trey Hearne (10-2) to the hill, as he faces fellow All-Star Samuel Deduno (8-2). Game time from Drillers Stadium on Thursday is 7:05pm.
