Romero has career night for 'Hoppers

These days, it seems there are very few pitchers who can get Avery Romero out.

The Marlins' No. 11 prospect collected four hits, drove in three runs and scored a career-high three times on Wednesday night in Class A Greensboro's 12-8 loss at Greenville.

The RBI total also matched a career best for Romero, who drove in three runs most recently on Aug. 29. He smacked three doubles in his second four-hit game of the season and raised his average 20 points to .317.

Romero has been on a tear, batting .485 (16-for-33) with seven runs scored in his last eight games. Overall, the 2012 third-round Draft pick has a .317/.359/.447 slash line and is third in the South Atlantic League with 39 hits. He's also tied for ninth with 20 runs scored and leads the Grasshoppers with 10 doubles.

Carlos Lopez chipped in two hits and two RBIs, while Juan Avila went 2-for-5 and scored twice for Greensboro.

Carlos Asuaje slugged a grand slam as the Drive scored seven runs in the eighth inning and rallied for their third straight win. Jantzen Witte, who's third in the league with a .365 average, fell a triple shy of the cycle and picked up two RBIs for Greenville.

The comeback made a winner of Mike Adams (1-1), who surrendered two runs on three hits over 2 1/3 innings.
