Romine's Walk-Off Single Extends Win Streak

August 9, 2012
Andrew Romine singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning, as the Salt Lake Bees edged the Oklahoma City RedHawks 8-7 on Wednesday night.

After the RedHawks tied the game with three runs in the ninth, Ed Lucas walked to lead off the 10th. One out later, he advanced from first to third on a single to right by Efren Navarro. Trevor Crowe followed with a ground ball to first baseman Mike Hessman. He threw to the plate and Lucas got caught in a rundown. Catcher Landon Powell chased him to third, but his throw got away from the third baseman to load the bases. Romine would line a 2-1 pitch over the pulled-in infield and into right field to bring home Lucas with the winning run.

Ryan Brasier (6-1) tossed one and one-third scoreless innings for the win. The Bees tied a franchise record with four triples in the game; two by Doug Deeds and one each by Crowe and Matt Long. Deeds also homered in the game for three extra base hits and two runs batted in, while Crowe added three hits and two RBI. Romine, Kole Calhoun, Hank Conger and Long each chipped in two hits and one run batted in, as Salt Lake wins its season-high seventh consecutive game.

"I can't say enough about the at-bat [Andrew Romine] had and even before that, just finishing the play, Ed (Lucas) running hard and finishing the play to get back to third," said Bees Manager Keith Johnson. "It was just a team win."
