Sampson named Pitcher of the Week

Right-hander grabs Pitcher of Week honors

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - RHP Keyvius Sampson was named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Sampson won his first two starts, firing 11 scoreless innings with 19 strikeouts to open the year.

Sampson, 20, was the Padres' fourth-round pick in the 2009 draft. He delivered six perfect innings with a career-high ten strikeouts on opening night for the TinCaps. In his second outing at Bowling Green, he went five scoreless frames with nine strikeouts. For the season, he has given up just two hits (one an infield single) and walked one.

Sampson's next start is scheduled for Tuesday at West Michigan.

The TinCaps open a six-game road trip tonight with a matchup against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Class-A Detroit Tigers) at 6:35 p.m. They return to Parkview Field for a three-game homestand beginning on Monday, April 25.
