Sano hits first Rock Cats homer

Minnesota's No. 1 prospect breaks out of Double-A skid

Minnesota's top prospect Miguel Sano hit his first Double-A homer, but his New Britain Rock Cats were edged by the host Erie SeaWolves, 2-1.

Playing third base and batting fifth, the 20-year-old recorded his first Eastern League extra-base hit when he snapped a scoreless tie with a solo long ball to left field off right-hander Victor Larez.

Sano, MLB.com's No. 11 prospect, is batting .111 with five RBIs in his first seven games at the new level. He hit 16 homers and batted .330 in 56 appearances for Class A Advanced Fort Myers.

Taylor Jordan allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out three batters over eight innings in the Harrisburg Senators' 3-1 win over the Bowie Baysox. He lowered his ERA to 0.73 and improved to 6-0 on the year.

In his first games in more than a week, Cesar Puello went 4-for-7 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs as the Binghamton Mets split a doubleheader with the Richmond Flying Squirrels. He had been out of the lineup since June 11 with a sprained finger suffered when he slid into second base.

Second baseman Taylor Lindsey hit a three-homer and plated four runs and right fielder Randal Grichuk fell a triple short of the cycle as the Arkansas Travelers bested the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, 8-3.

Springfield first baseman Xavier Scruggs hit his league-leading 19th homer of the year and reached base three times in the Cardinals' 6-2 win over the Tulsa Drillers. It marked the third time he has cleared the fences in the past four games.

Frisco first baseman Mitch Moreland was 3-for-5 with a homer, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored and left fielder Teodoro Martinez homered and plated three runs as part of a three-hit night in the RoughRiders' 9-5 win over the Midland RockHounds.

Reading first baseman Jim Murphy was 4-for-4 with two homers, four RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Fightin Phils to a 9-8 win over the Portland Sea Dogs. Rehabbing second baseman Chase Utley was 0-for-4 in his first start with the club.

D-backs shortstop prospect Nick Ahmed homered, tripled and plated four runs, missing the cycle by a double in the Mobile BayBears' 8-6 win over the Jackson Generals.

Yankees pitching prospect Shane Greene won his Double-A debut, allowing three runs on eight hits while recording four strikeouts over five innings in the Trenton Thunder's 5-3 victory over the host Akron Aeros. He was 4-6 with a 3.60 in 13 Florida State League outings before the promotion to the Eastern League.
