Scoreless Night for the IronBirds

Birds lose second game in series against Renegades, 2-0

ABERDEEN, MD- The IronBirds attempted to clinch the series win in the second game of the three-game series in Aberdeen on Saturday night. Renegades put up a run in both the first and second half of the game. Birds were unable to score any runs and lost with a score of 2-0.

RHP Sebastian Vader (1-7, 3.92) started on the mound for the IronBirds Saturday night while LHP Matthew Spann (3-5, 3.96) took the mound for the Renegades.

In the top of the second inning, DH Justin O'Conner scored off of a LF Joel Caminero single giving the Renegades the lead, 1-0.

Renegades scored again in the top of the seventh inning when CF Marty Gantt doubled and sent a line drive to RF Manny Hernandez. RF Charles Epperson was then sent to home plate.

Sebastian Vader was assigned the loss for the IronBirds while Spann grabbed the win for the Renegades. Spann did not allow a hit until the fourth inning, when CF Anthony Vega smacked a fly ball to right field. The Renegades clinched the McNamera division with their win on Saturday night, the first time since 1998. Vader had career high pitching performance with eight strikeouts.

With the loss on Saturday night, IronBirds go 0-11 on Saturdays for the 2012 season.

The IronBirds will close out the three game series against the Hudson Valley Renegades on Sunday, September 2. LHP Lex Rutledge (0-2, 6.35) will take the mound for the Birds against Renegades RHP Jeff Ames (5-1, 1.67).
