Seager on a roll for Rancho Cucamonga

Corey Seager has been racking up the hits lately, just like a top-ranked prospect is expected to.

The Dodgers' No. 1 prospect collected three hits, including a pair of doubles, and scored an insurance run on Sunday as Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga posted a 4-2, 10-inning win at Lake Elsinore.

"I just got a couple good pitches to hit, put good swings on them and we ended up with a victory," Seager said. "So it was a good day."

It was the second straight three-hit game for the 18th overall pick in the 2012 Draft. In nine games since May 3, when he came off the disabled list following a hamstring injury, Seager is batting .429 (15-for-35) with five doubles.

"It's never fun sitting on the bench," Seager said. "It's nice to be back and nice to be in the lineup.

"I feel comfortable after [being on] the disabled list. ... It's just getting good pitches and not missing them. I'm not missing them right now. Hopefully, I can keep going with that."

On Sunday, MLB.com's No. 31 overall prospect struck out in the first inning but ripped a two-out double to center field in the third. After leading off the sixth with a groundout, Seager laced a single to right in the eighth but was later caught stealing.

In the 10th, the 20-year-old followed Brandon Dixon's one-out single with a double to right, putting a pair of men in scoring position for the Quakes. Dixon raced home with the go-ahead run on a wild pitch by reliever Brandon Alger and Seager scored on a sacrifice fly by Jon Garcia, who finished with two RBIs.

Seager owns a .333/.391/.508 slash line through 29 games in his second full Minor League season. The shortstop has two homers, two triples and 11 doubles with 15 RBIs and 30 strikeouts against 11 walks. He also has five steals in six tries.

"The season's going good," Seager said. "I'm hoping to just keep up with what I'm doing. I've just been putting in my work every day and trying to get better every day."

The North Carolina native has hit safely in five straight games. The only other time he assembled back-to-back games with at least three hits was Aug. 4-6, 2012, when he went 3-for-6, 4-for-4 and 3-for-7 in a three-game stretch for Rookie-level Ogden.

Last season, Seager played 74 games for Class A Great Lakes before moving up for 27 in the California League. He posted a combined .269/.351/.473 slash line over 426 plate appearances.

He's one of two baseball-playing younger brothers of Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager, with the other being Justin Seager, a first baseman for Class A Clinton.
