Senators finish road trip with 7-3 win over Binghamton

June 9, 2011
The Harrisburg Senators wrapped up their seven-game road trip with a 7-3 win over the Binghamton Mets on Thursday afternoon. Shairon Martis was the winner on Thursday and Josh Johnson provided the big hit as the Senators moved to 34-24, ten games over .500 for a third time this year.

Martis pitched five innings for the win in his first outing since May 28 against Bowie. He was followed by Jimmy Barthmaier, Rafael Martin and Zech Zinicola who all combined to throw four scoreless innings.

The Sens scored single runs in four of the first five innings, but stranded four runners in scoring position. Johnson had an RBI ground out in the first and then Archie Gilbert an RBI single in the second to give the Sens a 2-0 lead. After Allen Dykstra hit a solo home run in the second for the B-Mets, Chris Rahl make it 3-1 with an RBI ground out in the third. Bill Rhinehart plated the fourth run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

The B-Mets scored a pair in the fifth to draw to within a run at 4-3. It stayed that way because of fine pitching by both bullpens.

In the ninth, Johnson hit a two-out two-strike three-run home run to give the Sens a 7-3 lead and plenty of breathing room. Johnson had three hits in the game and four RBIs and Steve Lombardozzi chipped in with two hits.

Harrisburg returns home to begin a three-game series on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. against the Akron Aeros. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and on your ipad or iphone beginning at 6:50 p.m.
