Seven-Run Fourth Leads to Blowout

Jamestown, NY - With a seven run top of the fourth, the Auburn Doubledays took a 10-2 lead over the Jamestown Jammers and never looked back in an eight-run win at Russell Diethrick Park on Tuesday night.

With the win, Auburn remained two games up on Williamsport in the Pinckney Division race, as the Crosscutters defeated Mahoning Valley in Pennsylvania.

With the team leader in wins, ERA, WHIP, and strikeouts on the hill, Auburn knew they had a great chance to bounce back from Monday night's heartbreaking walk-off loss. Wirkin Estevez was his usual dominant self on Tuesday, pitching five solid innings and allowing just two runs on four hits. All he needed was run support, and the Doubledays had no problem supplying it.

In the top of the second, Hendry Jimenez lined a one-out double to right field. After Billy Burns walked, Jimenez went to third and Burns to second on a wild pitch by Jammers' starter Helpi Reyes. The two base runners scored the game's first two runs a batter later, on a single by Wilfri Pena.

Auburn added to their lead in the third, turning a leadoff single by Bryce Ortega into a run by moving him over and then driving him in off a Russell Moldenhauer sacrifice fly.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the third, Jamestown built a rally. With two outs and the bases clear, Nestor Castillo singled and went to second a walk to Ryan Goetz. Austin Barnes and Brian McConkey each followed with RBI singles to center before Estevez got Josh Adams to pop up to short to end the inning.

In the fourth, Auburn blew the game open. Eleven men were sent to the plate, five had hits and seven scored as a 3-2 lead went to 10-2 with just one half-inning.

Hendry Jimenez was hit by a pitch. Billy Burns doubled him home. Wilfri Pena singled. Caleb Ramsey singled, scoring Burns. A wild pitch sent Pena to third and Ramsey to second, only to see a passed ball advance the runners ninety more feet, handing Auburn a free run. Bryce Ortega drew a walk, forcing Helpi Reyes out of the game.

The Jammers brought in Chase Weir, but he couldn't minimize the damage.

Wier sent a pitch to the backstop, allowing Ramsey to score and Ortega to advance to second. He then gave up a single to Matt Skole, followed by a home run to Justin Miller.

The Doubledays had scored seven runs in the inning and still, nobody was out.

From there, Wier worked his way out of the inning without giving up more runs, but the damage had already been done. What was a 3-2 Auburn lead was now 10-2.

The score stayed the same until the ninth inning, when a leadoff walk to Justin Miller turned into the eleventh Doubledays run of the night on an RBI groundout by Hendry Jimenez.

When all was said and done, the Doubledays had eleven runs on twelve hits in an 11-2 rout of Jamestown.

Auburn used five pitchers on the evening. Estevez went five innings, picking up the win. Christian Meza, Richie Mirowski, Kelvin Lopez, and Tyler Hanks all worked a scoreless inning apiece, closing out the blowout win.

The Doubledays return home on Wednesday when they meet the Jammers in a 7:05pm first pitch at Falcon Park.
