Seven Vero Beach Devil Rays Players Named to Mid-Season FSL All-Star Team

The Vero Beach Devil Rays are pleased to announce seven members of its squad have been voted by the Florida State League as members of the 2008 Mid-Season All-Star Team! With their seven selections the Devil Rays will send more players to the FSL All-Star game than any other team in the league. Pitchers Jeremy Hellickson, Heath Rollins, Ryan Reid and Ryan Morse, as well as position players Cesar Suarez, Garrett Groce and J.T. Hall will represent the Rays, and the FSL East, in the game on Saturday, June 14 in Viera, Fla.

Right-handed pitcher Jeremy Hellickson (Des Moines, Iowa) currently* sits at second place in the league with 64 strikeouts to his credit in 56.2 innings pitched. He is also fourth in the league with a 2.22 ERA to compliment his 5-0 record in 10 starts. Heath Rollins (Lexington, SC) is currently third in the league behind Hellickson with 58 strikeouts in 57 innings of work. The right-handed Rollins sits at 2-4 on the season with a 4.42 ERA in 10 games and nine starts.

Devil Rays reliever Ryan Reid (Portland, Maine) and starting pitcher Ryan Morse (St. Cloud, Minn.) were also voted onto the FSL East All-Star team. Reid sits at 2-0 on the season with a 0.31 ERA in 20 games with eight saves and 42 strikeouts, while Morse boasts a 2-0 record with a 2.02 ERA in 49 innings pitched with 29 strikeouts. Morse's ERA ranks second in the Florida State League.

Designated hitter J.T. Hall (Port Gibson, Miss.) currently ranks tenth in the FSL with a .311 batting average, and also boasts 22 RBI and four home runs for the season. Third-baseman Cesar Suarez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) has notched a .292 batting average so far in 2008, with 24 RBI and three home runs, while Garrett Groce (Columbus, Ga.) earned a spot on the All-Star team batting .280 with 17 RBI and one home run.

Hellickson, Rollins and Groce will each be making their second appearances in a mid-season All-Star game, while Hall, Suarez, Morse and Reid are all first-time honorees. Rollins previously earned a spot on the 2007 South Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star team, while Hellickson's previous honor was earned in 2006 when he appeared at the New York-Penn League All-Star game. Groce was a previous All-Star at the 2005 New York-Penn League Mid-Season All-Star game.
