Shorthanded Tides fall 8-6

May 27, 2009
Toledo pounded out 16 hits off of six different Tides pitchers en route to an 8-6 win over Norfolk Wednesday.

Due to recent call-ups to Baltimore, Norfolk's bullpen was forced to pitch the majority of the contest for the second consecutive day. Radhames Liz, Kam Mickolio, Alberto Castillo, Ross Wolf and Jim Miller all appeared in the game, while utility player Brandon Pinckney made his first ever pitching appearance in the eighth inning.

Justin Turner continued his hot stretch at the plate with four hits in the game, while Jeff Fiorentino had two hits - including a two-run homer in the ninth inning. Turner now has seven multi-hit games in his last 13 contests.

Carlos Rojas added three hits in the loss, which was Norfolk's first against the IL West this season. The Tides are 10-1 against members of the West division thus far.

The Tides and Mud Hens will conclude their four-game series on Thursday night, with first pitch from Fifth Third Field scheduled for 6:30.
