Sierra Hits Walk-Off Grand Slam in 11-7 Win

July 28, 2011
Spokane, WA-In one of the most memorable nights in the long and storied history of Avista Stadium, leftfielder Ruben Sierra launched a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning to cap off a five-run Indians comeback as Spokane soared past Eugene 11-7.

Sierra's game-winning home run also sent a lucky fan home in brand new Ford 150 Super Duty Truck courtesy of Gus Johnson Ford as a part of Grand Slam F-150 Giveaway Night presented by Gus Johnson Ford and KISS 98.1 FM.

The Indians loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth but a strikeout from Hirotoshi Onaka and a pop out from Nick Vickerson left the game, and the truck giveaway, in jeopardy.

That's when Sierra, who tied the game with a home run in the bottom of the eighth, stepped to the plate. On the first pitch he saw from Emeralds reliever Chris Wilkes (3-1), the hard-swinging Sierra drilled a long fly ball into the Spokane night that capped off an epic comeback and a memorable night for Indians fan Leslie Vancil.

Vancil, who was randomly selected as the ninth inning contestant, left the game speechless after watching Sierra's majestic home run clear the leftfield wall.

This marks the second time in 2011 that the Indians have made a big winner of one of their fans as the team already gave away $10,000 as a part of 10K's for $10K Night on July 7th.

Tomorrow is game three of a five game series against Eugene and is a Yoke's $1 Family Feast Night presented by Yoke's Fresh Market and 92.9 ZZU.
