Skole, Foltynewicz take top awards

South Atlantic League's 2012 Postseason All-Stars revealed

Nationals prospect Matthew Skole was voted MVP and Astros right-hander Michael Foltynewicz earned top pitcher honors on Thursday when the South Atlantic League unveiled its 2012 postseason All-Star team and award winners.

Skole, who was promoted to the Carolina League, still ranks as the Sally League's leader in homers, on-base percentage and slugging.

In 101 games, the 2011 first-round pick hit .286 with 27 homers, 92 RBIs and 10 steals. Through Aug. 28, the Georgia Tech product has 102 RBIs at two levels.

Foltynewicz, the Astros' No. 6 prospect, is 14-3 with a 2.91 ERA in 26 starts for Lexington. He leads the SAL in wins and ranks fifth in ERA.

Pirates prospect Gregory Polanco, a Midseason All-Star, earned "Most Oustanding Major League Prospect" status after hitting .325 with 15 homers, 81 RBIs and 40 stolen bases in 111 games for West Virginia.

Skole steals third

The All-Star team was voted on by the South Atlantic League field managers, general managers, writers and broadcasters for each team, for a total of 56 votes. The full roster is below:
