Smokies offer 'President's Award Ticket Special'

Team to thank fans for being recognized as top minor league organization
March 2, 2012

KODAK, Tenn. - In 2011, the Tennessee Smokies were recognized from among over 160 minor league teams and named the recipient of the John H. Johnson President's Award. The President's Award, Minor League Baseball's top accolade, has been presented annually since 1974 to honor the complete baseball franchise - based on franchise stability, and significant contributions to the community, its league and the baseball industry.

Last years "Deal of the Century" was such a success, the Smokies have decided to take it up a notch. In appreciation of this prestigious award, the Smokies would like to offer our outstanding fans the "President's Award Ticket Special." For 160 hours, fans can purchase a $10 ticket to the Smokies' Opening Night (April 10) game for only $1.00.

Fans will be able to purchase the $1 tickets on the team's Web site at www.smokiesbaseball.com, at the Smokies ticket office or by calling (865) 286-2300 beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7. The "President's Award Ticket Special" will end at 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14.

The Smokies will bring a wealth of entertainment to fans all season long. The Smokies will feature 13 of the best fireworks shows in Minor League Baseball. Each show, produced by LaFollette, TN based Pyro Shows, will be choreographed to a different musical genre, based on that night's promotional theme.

Giveaway nights are a staple within the Minor League Baseball experience all around the country, and the Smokies are no different. The Smokies have seven separate giveaway nights planned in 2012.

In addition to great promotions, the Smokies will welcome some of the nation's best performers. "The Hippest Nerd in da' Biz" Myron Noodleman (June 16 & August 25) along with the ZOOperstars (June 30) will be at Smokies Park to entertain the fans of East Tennessee. Smokies Park will also entertain fans with four post-game concerts, including the return of the fan-favorite 80s cover band The Breakfast Club.

The Smokies will also play host to the 2012 Southern League All-Star Game. The game will be played on Tuesday, June 19 at Smokies Park. This will be the first time since 2002 that the "midsummer classic" will be in East Tennessee. To celebrate the All-Star Game in Tennessee, the Smokies' overall promotional theme for 2012 will be "All-Star Fun."

The Smokies will kick off their "All-Star Fun" campaign on April 10, against the Jackson Generals. First pitch is slated for 7:15 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online at www.smokiesbaseball.com, at the Smokies ticket office or by phone at (865) 286-2300.
