Astros prospect sparks Corpus Christi in win over Midland

George Springer went 0-for-3 on Sunday, but he still put on an offensive show in Corpus Christi's 5-3 win over Midland.

The Astros' No. 3 prospect walked twice and stole four bases to tie the club record set by Jonathan Villar last June 9.

Erik Castro went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and Enrique Hernandez doubled, singled and scored a run for the Hooks. Unbeaten Corpus Christi starter David Martinez recorded his Minor League-leading seventh win after giving up two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings.

Jake Goebbert homered against his former team for the RockHounds.

Alex Wood struck out five over six innings for his third Southern League win as Mississippi topped Jacksonville, 9-3. The Braves' No. 5 prospect carried a shutout into his final frame before the Suns touched him for three runs. He scattered six hits and two walks and leads the league with a 1.26 ERA.

Braeden Schlehuber went yard twice and Braves No. 16 prospect Edward Salcedo homered and singled.

Marlins No. 3 prospect Jake Marisnick was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. He also picked up an outfield assist by catching Philip Gosselin trying to stretch a single into a double.

Tigers No. 6 prospect Tyler Collins hit his ninth homer to power Erie to a 6-4 win at Akron. The solo shot gave Collins a share of the Eastern League lead with Reading's Jim Murphy and New Hampshire's Ryan Schimpf.

Hernan Perez, Detroit's 13th-ranked prospect, had two hits and a run scored, while No. 7 prospect Daniel Fields walked and scored a run for the fifth time in six games.

Indians No. 9 prospect Jose Ramirez was 4-for-5 with a triple, a run scored and a stolen base for the Aeros, who got a homer, single and two runs scored from Tyler Holt.

Randal Grichuk capped a two-hit day with a two-run single in the eighth inning as Arkansas defeated Springfield, 5-3. The Angels' No. 7 prospect is batting .341 (15-for-44) over his last 11 games.

No. 3 prospect C.J. Cron went 2-for-4 and No. 4 prospect Taylor Lindsey belted his sixth homer for the Travelers.

Mike O'Neill had two hits and an RBI for Springfield, while Cardinals No. 15 prospect James Ramsey singled and scored a run. No. 11 prospect Seth Blair did not figure in the decision after giving up three runs on six hits with six strikeouts in six innings.
