Squirrels to Celebrate Nutzy and America

Nutzy's Birthday Bash and Auditions Set for February 12th

RICHMOND, VA - The Flying Squirrels have announced a full slate of events at The Diamond on Saturday, February 12th, including Nutzy's First Birthday Bash, and National Anthem and Mascot Auditions. The events will begin at 9:00 AM.

The Boys and Girls Club of Metro Richmond is partnering with the Flying Squirrels to celebrate Nutzy's First Birthday Bash. Kroger Squirrel Tails Kids Club members are invited to The Diamond from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM to enjoy inflatables, cake and a birthday card craft table. Fans are asked to bring a birthday gift for Nutzy which will be donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond. Wish list items include arts and crafts supplies, sports equipment, electronics and board games.

"Nutzy is the face of the Flying Squirrels franchise and has had such a huge impact in the community," said Flying Squirrels Director of Community Relations and Promotions Christina Shisler. "We are so excited to celebrate his first birthday! The Boys and Girls Club of Metro Richmond is a great community partner of ours and we are thrilled they are able to take part in the festivities."

National Anthem Auditions will be held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Celebrity guest judges for the auditions will include Jeffrey Riehl, Associate Professor at the University of Richmond, Meghan Amerson and Danah Dargon, faculty members at the Greater Richmond School of Music, Cynthia Donnell, Associate Professor at VCU, and Casey Mickelson, Bass Section Leader with the Richmond Symphony.

Mascot Auditions will follow the National Anthem Auditions beginning at 12:30 PM and will last until approximately 3:00 PM. Interested candidates will be competing in a dance segment, prop segment, scenario acting segments and an interview session. Candidates are also required to prepare and perform a short, two-minute skit. Experience in dance, gymnastics, mascoting and theatre is preferred. Gym or comfortable, moveable clothing should be worn for the auditions.

"I am really excited about National Anthem and Mascot Auditions this season," said Shisler. "We are ecstatic about the participation of our guest judges for the National Anthem Auditions and look forward to them helping us identify talented performers. We also have some fun additions to our on-field promotions and are looking forward to finding high-energy individuals to help us bring them to life."
