Stallings added to NYPL All-Star Game roster

Spikes' catcher replaces Tri-City's Morales on NL squad
August 11, 2012
State College Spikes catcher Jacob Stallings has been added to the National League roster for the New York-Penn League All-Star Game at Eastwood Field in Niles, OH on Tuesday. Stallings now joins Spikes outfielder Tyler Gaffney and infielder D.J. Crumlich in representing the club and the Pittsburgh Pirates organization at the annual showcase.

Stallings, the Pirates' seventh-round draft choice in 2012 out of North Carolina, has shouldered much of the load behind the plate for the Spikes. The Nashville, TN native has handled the catching chores in 34 of the 51 games for State College this season. Stallings is hitting .268 at the plate with a team-leading 16 doubles and 20 runs batted in this year.

The former Tar Heel earned his spot on the National League squad after Tri-City catcher Jobduan Morales earned promotion to Single-A Lexington.

Gaffney, Crumlich and Stallings are also joined by Spikes outfielder Barrett Barnes on the All-Star roster, but Barnes will be unable to play due to injury

Complete rosters for the game are listed below, with players unable to participate due to injury in italics.

After the All-Star break, the Spikes will head back home to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for a four-game homestand beginning on Wednesday, August 15. Great seats are available for Monday night's game and can be purchased by visiting the Medlar Field at Lubrano Park Box Office, by calling toll-free (877) 99-SPIKES, or by clicking here to buy and print tickets from your home computer.
