The Stars will be a Brewers affiliate through the 2012 season
October 6, 2010
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Huntsville Stars and Milwaukee Brewers have extended their Player Development Contract (PDC) through the 2012 season. The Stars will continue to field top-prospects for the Brewers at the Double-A level for at least the next two years. The announcement was made today by the Brewers Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Melvin and Stars General Manager Buck Rogers.

"The Southern League has provided a competitive environment for our players at the Double-A level and we look forward to continuing our long-time affiliation with the Huntsville Stars," Melvin said. "This past season, players such as Lorenzo Cain, Jonathan Lucroy and Mark Rogers made contributions with our big league club after they all started the season at Huntsville."

Since the Stars became a Brewers affiliate in 1999, they have posted an 818-849 (.491) record, winning division titles in 2001, '03, '06, and '07. They were also named Southern League Co-Champions in 2001, sharing the title with the Jacksonville Suns.

Stars GM Rogers said, "The Huntsville Stars are proud to continue their relationship with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers continually put their talented minor leaguers on the fast-track to the Major Leagues, as is evident with the seven former Stars from this year alone who made it to the majors. The Stars are excited to continue to provide the Brewers tradition of excellence to the fans in Huntsville."

The Brewers also announced today that the coaching staff from 2010 will take the field again at Joe Davis Stadium in 2011. The staff will consist of manager Mike Guerrero, pitching coach John Curtis, coach Al LeBoeuf, athletic trainer Aaron Hoback, and strength and conditioning coach Jake Marx. This will be Curtis' third season with the Stars and the second for Guerrero, LeBoeuf, Hoback and Marx.

The Stars kick off the 2011 season on the road against the defending Southern League Champions Jacksonville Suns on Thursday, April 7. Their home opener will be on Wednesday, April 13 against the Carolina Mudcats.
