Successful Partnership Renewed for Two More Years

August 15, 2012

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets and San Francisco Giants today join to announce they have renewed their Player Development Contract for two more years. The renewed deal will keep Augusta as a Giants' affiliate through the 2014 season.

Under the current Giants affiliation, the GreenJackets have enjoyed some of their most successful seasons in franchise history. Most recently, the GreenJackets stormed to a second-half Southern Division championship last season before falling in the Division Series. Previously, the GreenJackets made three straight playoff appearances from 2006-2008, culminating in the 2008 South Atlantic League Championship. In 2009 and 2010, the GreenJackets fielded competitive teams that were in contention until the last weekend in at least one half of each season.

In addition, former GreenJackets have continued to make a splash in the major leagues since the affiliation began in 2005. This season, Charlie Culberson became the latest former GreenJacket to make his major league debut for the Giants. Other notable former GreenJackets to come from the Giants-GreenJackets partnership include Brian Wilson, Madison Bumgarner, Dan Runzler and Pablo Sandoval.

"We're pleased to have the San Francisco Giants back with us to continue our partnership and the development of future major leaguers here in Augusta." said GreenJackets General Manager Bob Flannery. "The Giants have not only made an impact in the sport of baseball but also to the Augusta community over the years."

Thanks in large part to community-involvement initiatives put in place by the Giants organization, the GreenJackets have helped lead the way among Giants affiliates in giving back to the community. This season alone, the GreenJackets have hosted two clinics for children of military families, have participated in the team's bowling event to benefit Special Olympics and have visited children's and veteran's hospitals, among other community events.

"The San Francisco Giants continue to enjoy our association with the city of Augusta, its tremendous fans and Ripken Baseball." said Bobby Evans, Vice President of Baseball Operations with the San Francisco Giants. "We are very fortunate to work alongside the dedicated management team they have assembled in their front office and proud to extend our Player Development Contract today."

The agreement between the GreenJackets and Giants goes a long way to make sure the fans of Augusta continue to see winning baseball in the next two years with a first-class organization.

"We are thrilled to be able to extend our agreement with San Francisco." said Jeff Eiseman, Executive Vice President of Ripken Baseball. "It is our hope to be able to resolve our long- and short-term issues in hopes of retaining the Giants in Augusta for many years to come."
