Suns Outlast Power 8-6 is Series Opener

Hagerstown, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (41-25) scored three runs in the seventh inning to overtake the West Virginia Power (21-46), 8-6, at Appalachian Power Stadium on Thursday night. Combined with Greensboro's win over Charleston, the Suns are 2.5 games behind the first-place Grasshoppers with three games remaining in the first half schedule.

Caleb Ramsey went 4-for-5 with a double and the game winning three-run triple in his second four-hit game of the season. Billy Burns had a pair of hits and knocked in one run for the winners.

Suns starting pitcher Taylor Hill did not factor in the decision, allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits over five innings. Ben Hawkins (2-0) earned his second win out of the bullpen with 2.2 scoreless innings. Greg Holt recorded the final out of the eighth inning before Aaron Barrett nailed down his 8th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.

Power starting pitcher Robby Rowland also did not factor in the decision, giving up five runs (two earned) on seven hits over four innings of work. Reliever Mike Jefferson took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits over 2.1 innings pitched.

The Suns will play game two against West Virginia on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. when LHP Bobby Hansen, Jr. makes his first appearance for Hagerstown against the Power's Matt Benedict.
