Suns Pinched by Blue Claws 8-1

Lakewood, NJ - The Hagerstown Suns (5-3) lost back-to-back games for the first time this season, falling to the Lakewood Blue Claws (3-5), 8-1, at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, New Jersey on Thursday night.

The Blue Claws used a six run first inning to jump ahead of Suns and starting pitcher Alex Meyer (1-1), who suffered the loss allowing five runs while recording just two outs on three hits, two walks and two strike outs. Greg Holt pitched the next 3.1 innings out of the bullpen and retired 10 of the 11 batters he faced in order.

Blue Claws catcher Logan Moore belted a two-run home run. First baseman Kelly Dugan and left fielder Aaron Altherr both drove in a pair of runs for the winners. Blue Claws starter Mike Nesseth (1-1) went five innings and gave up just one unearned run on five hits. Righty Kenny Giles finished the game with four scoreless innings and allowing one hit to notch his first save of the season.

The Suns will play game two of the series with Lakewood on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. when LHP Kylin Turnbull (0-0) makes his second start of the season against Blue Claws lefty Ethan Stewart (0-1).
