Suns Use Seven Extra Base Hits to Topple Rome, 10-5

Hagerstown, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (13-11) blasted three home runs, including back-to-back shots by Jason Martinson and Matt Skole in the first inning, as they downed the Rome Braves (6-19), 10-5, at Municipal Stadium on Wednesday night.

Steven Souza went 2-for-5 with a double, home run and three more RBIs versus the Braves. Souza has now driven in 12 of his 13 total RBIs against Rome pitching. J.P. Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Martinson finished the game 2-for-5, adding a double and two RBIs. Skole's solo homer was his team leading fifth of the year and extended his league leading RBI total to 32.

Suns starting pitcher Wirkin Estevez (3-1) earned the win going 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on four hits, three walks and six strike outs.

Braves' starter Rafeal Briceno (2-2) suffered the loss, giving up seven earned runs over 4.1 innings of work. The first three hits allowed by Briceno were all solo home runs. Designated hitter Will Skinner led the Braves' offense with a 2-for-4 night, including a home run and three RBIs.

The Suns will play game two against the Rome Braves on a Thirsty Thursday, presented by Benny's Pub, tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Brian Dupra (2-3) will start for Hagerstown against Rome's RHP David Filak (1-1).
