MOBILE, Ala. (July 30, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, matched their season high with 12 runs scored in a 12-5 victory over the Mississippi Braves in the series opener Sunday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Three players had multi-hit games for Mobile (46-58 overall, 16-19 second half). Matt Thaiss went 3-for-4 with a season-high three RBI, and he matched his career-high with three runs scored. Zach Gibbons had a multi-hit game with a season-high four RBI. Troy Montgomery went 2-for-3 and matched his career-high with three runs scored.
Mike Soroka (10-6) gave up a career-high seven runs in 5 1/3 innings pitched. The BayBears scored two runs in the first inning, four in the third, and five in the sixth, including three straight bases-loaded walks against reliever Jacob Webb. Catcher Sal Giardina entered the game as a pitcher, and he induced a double play to end the seventh inning before allowing one run on two hits in the eighth.
Conor Lillis-White (1-3) earned his first Double-A win with three scoreless innings of relief. He matched his season-high with five strikeouts.
Alex Jackson drew three walks and scored twice in his Double-A debut for the Braves (46-59, 12-23). Tyler Nelsony went a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
The previous time Mobile scored 12 runs in a game was in a 12-1 win over Mississippi on April 20 at Trustmark Park.
