Third Series Win for Auburn in 6-1 defeat of Williamsport

June 29, 2011

For the third time this year, the Auburn Doubledays won a series. With Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Williamsport Crosscutters, the Doubledays won their third series in four attempts and improved to 8-4 on the season.

Despite being delayed an hour and 28 minutes, Doubledays' starter Wirkin Estevez was very effective. In his five innings of work, Estevez surrendered just four hits on one earned run, striking out five. Tonight marked the second good outing in a row for Estevez, who worked five scoreless innings his last time out.

Blake Monar and Richie Morowski each provided two scoreless innings of relief for Estevez, with Monar striking out three and Mirowski two on the evening.
Estevez was supported at the plate by his team, who powered in 6 runs on 8 hits in the 6-1 victory. Angelberth Montilla led the way for the Doubledays, going 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBIs and a double.

For the second night in a row, the Doubledays scored their runs in bunches, plating three in the third on three hits and two more in the sixth on two singles, two walks, and a bases loaded walk.

The win gives Auburn a 3-3 home stand, as they now travel to Williamsport tomorrow to take on the Crosscutters for three more. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm tomorrow night as Auburn will send right-hander Pedro Encarnacion (0-1, 10.29 ERA) to the bump to take on Williamsport lefty Lino Martinez (0-1, 5.06 ERA).
