Third time through, Reed solving riddle

First-rounder Chris Reed's resume in the Southen League might not be as polished as he would like, but his third time through the circuit is proving to be the charm.

The No. 6 Dodgers prospect allowed one hit over six innings Wednesday in the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts' 6-0 win over the host Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

Reed (3-1) gave up a leadoff single to Devin Lohman, who promptly stole second base. The southpaw retired the next two Pensacola hitters, but Steve Selsky reached base on a wild-pitch strikeout that sent Lohman to third. But Reed then fanned first baseman Ray Chang to strand runners at the corners and escape unharmed.

Only two other Blue Wahoos reached base against the Stanford product the rest of the way -- Rey Navarro drew a two-out walk in the third and Jon Moscot reached on right fielder Brian Cavazos-Galvez's fielding error in the fifth.

Selected by the Dodgers 16th overall in the 2011 Draft, Reed threw 64 of 98 pitches for strikes, lowered his ERA to 1.88 and retired 10 of the final 11 batters he faced.

Reed is no stranger to the Southern League. He went 0-4 with a 4.84 ERA in 12 appearances in his sophomore campaign in 2012 and he was 4-11 with a 3.86 mark in 29 games -- including 25 starts -- repeating the level last year.
