May 12, 2010
Trayce Thompson drilled a pair of homers and knocked in a career-high five runs as Class A Kannapolis defeated Delmarva, 8-3, on Wednesday night.

The White Sox's second-round pick in 2009 opened the scoring for the Intimidators (16-16) in the second inning with a two-run blast. Two innings later, Thompson clubbed a three-run shot to put Kannapolis ahead, 5-0.

The 19-year-old entered the night in a 5-for-36 slump, and was hitting .232 on the season. The California native struggled in 2009, batting .198 in 32 games between the Pioneer League and Appalachian League after signing out of Santa Margarita Catholic High School.

Nick Ciolli doubled and scored for the Intimidators, who finished with 15 hits. Daniel Wagner had an RBI single to extend his hitting streak to six games, while Jesus Villegas Andino had three singles in his season debut.

Joseph Serafin (4-2) earned the win, allowing six hits and striking out three in seven scoreless innings. Jimmy Ballinger allowed one hit and fanned one in an inning of relief.

The Kannapolis pitching staff was helped out by the defense, which turned five double plays to keep the Shorebirds (16-15) off the board until the ninth.
