Three Former Missions Awarded Gold Gloves

San Antonio - Former San Antonio Missions Adrian Beltre, Chase Headley and Adam Jones have been named as 2012 Gold Glove winners in their respective leagues Major League Baseball announced today.

For Beltre it was his second consecutive Gold Glove and fourth overall, also earning the honors in 2007 and 2008 while with the Seattle Mariners in addition to the past two seasons as a member of the Texas Rangers. His .974 fielding percentage was tops among American League third basemen and third-best in the Majors.

Beltre hit .321 (79-for-246) in 64 games for San Antonio in 1998 with 21 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, 56 RBI, 49 runs scored and 20 stolen bases before being promoted to the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 24.

Headley, who has spent his entire six-year career with the San Diego Padres, was one of nine first-time winners. He registered a .976 fielding percentage at third base (second-best in the Major Leagues), making just 10 errors in 425 total chances.

Headley was the 2007 Texas League Player of the Year while guiding San Antonio to the team's 11th championship. He played in 121 games for the Missions while hitting a league-best .330 (143-for-433) with 20 homers and 78 RBI. Headley also led the circuit in on-base percentage (.437) and slugging (.580) while ranking third in doubles (38) and extra-base hits (63), tied for fourth in hits, HR and RBI and fifth in runs scored (82). He was named to the Texas League Mid- and Post-Season All-Star teams and was a Baseball America Double-A All-Star.

Jones is now a two-time winner after winning his first Gold Gove in 2009. He led all American League center fielders in fielding percentage (.982), recording a league-high 439 putouts against just seven errors while playing in all 162 regular season games for the Baltimore Orioles.

Jones, a shortstop while with the Missions, played in 63 games for San Antonio in 2005 and hit .298 (68-for-228) with seven home runs and 20 RBI.
