JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (April 14, 2018) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, used a pair of five-run innings to blow out the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 13-3 Saturday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Hutton Moyer , Taylor Ward , and Matt Thaiss all hit home runs for the BayBears (4-5). Moyer's league-high fourth long ball came in the first inning off Merandy Gonzalez (0-1). Ward's first dinger of the season put Mobile ahead 4-3 in the sixth. Thaiss capped the scoring barrage with a three-run shot in the ninth.
Mobile took a 7-3 lead after plating five in the sixth inning. After Ward got the scoring started, Riley Unroe drew a bases-loaded walk, and Brennon Lund followed with a two-run single. Zach Gibbons extended his hit streak to nine games with an RBI single in the seventh.
Jake Jewell (1-0) earned the win, holding the Jumbo Shrimp (4-5) to one run in 2 1/3 innings of relief. Despite giving up six hits, he induced two inning-ending double plays to limit the damage.
