Three Quad Cities pitchers shutout Rattlers

August 13, 2011
GRAND CHUTE, WI - Anthony Ferrara and a pair of Quad Cities River Bandit relievers combined to shutout the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on four hits on Saturday night at Time Warner Cable Field. Ferrara earned his eleventh win of the season with six shutout innings in a 6-0 victory.

Quad Cities (69-48 overall, 29-18) got on the board with a pair of runs in the first inning. Joey Bergman's two-out single with the bases loaded drove in a pair of runs.

The Bandits struck again with two outs in the top of the second inning. Mike O'Neill singled in Packy Elkins to make the score 3-0.

Timber Rattlers starting pitcher Eric Arnett settled in after the first two innings. In his first Midwest League start of 2011, He tossed six innings, allowed three runs on five hits. Arnett struck out seven in the game.

However, Wisconsin (57-61, 19-29) could not get their bats going against Ferrara. The lefty for the River Bandits allowed one hit through his first 5-2/3 innings. Wisconsin did get a pair of runners on with a single and a walk when there were two outs in the bottom of the sixth. But, Ferrara got out of the inning with the 3-0 lead intact. He struck out six in the game.

The Bandits added on in the seventh. Geoff Klein's two-out, two-run double made the score 5-0. Then, Jonathan Rodriguez hit a long solo homer in the top of the eighth for a 6-0 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, Wisconsin loaded the bases against Dean Kiekhefer with a one out double by Greg Hopkins, a single by Reggie Keen, and a two out walk to Franklin Romero, Jr. But, Kiekhefer closed out the game with a grounder to first.

The loss was the third straight for the Rattlers.
