Threshers' Wright wins FSL Pitcher of the Year Award
As of August 28, Wright was the owner of a 10-5 record and a 3.42 ERA. Just one other pitcher, Brevard's Taylor Jungmann, owned more wins. His ERA was good for fifth overall in the league of qualifying candidates. Two of Wright's teammates, lefties Adam Morgan (promoted to Reading earlier this month) and Jesse Biddle tallied more strikeouts this season, but Wright was third overall in the league in that category.
Wright is in his second season of professional baseball after being drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the eighth round of the 2011 draft out of Ole Miss. He made his professional debut last summer pitching for the short-season Class-A Williamsport Crosscutters before quickly earning a promotion to the Lakewood Blueclaws.
The 6'4, 235-pound lefty has posted some tremendous outings this season as part of his award-winning campaign. In his fourth start of the season, Wright pitched seven innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out 10 members of the Daytona Cubs. He was voted as a mid-season FSL All-Star and represented Clearwater in the game on June 16th in Port Charlotte. He will look to finish the season strong this week as the Threshers make a final push for the playoffs before the end of the regular season on September 1.
