Tides drop homestand finale, 9-4

June 9, 2009
Toledo jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 9-4 win over the Tides Tuesday afternoon.

The Mud Hens touched up Tides starter Chris Waters (6-3) for six runs on six hits in 2.2 innings of work, snapping Waters' four-game winning streak. The 28-year-old southpaw struck out five and walked three but surrendered a solo home run to Wilkin Ramirez leading off the game and a three-run homer to Will Rhymes in the third inning.

With the loss, Norfolk finished its homestand at 2-5.

The Tides offense was led by Jeff Fiorentino, who doubled twice and singled to lead Norfolk's 10-hit attack. Jolbert Cabrera also added a two-run homer in the contest, his fourth homer of the season.

Andy Mitchell, Kam Mickolio and Bob McCrory combined to toss four hitless innings of relief.

Norfolk will enjoy an off day Wednesday before traveling to Indianapolis to start an eight-game road trip Thursday night. First pitch from Victory Field is scheduled for 7:00.
