Tides edged in Gwinnett Monday

July 20, 2009
A six-run inning was not enough as Norfolk fell to Gwinnett 7-6 Monday night.

Trailing 3-0 entering the third inning, Norfolk plated six runs in the frame, with the big hit a three-run homer by Victor Diaz, who was playing his first game with the Tides this season.

Gwinnett rallied back with three runs of their own in the fifth to tie the score, then another off Jim Miller (2-3) in the seventh for the win. Kelly Johnson homered twice and drove in all seven runs for the Braves.

The Tides and Braves will square off again Tuesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00.
