Tides outlast Toledo Thursday

May 28, 2009
Jolbert Cabrera singled home Jeff Fiorentino with two outs in the 10th inning, lifting Norfolk to a 7-6 win Thursday night.

With the score knotted at 6-6 in the 10th, Fiorentino drew a two-out walk from Ron Chiavacchi (1-3) and proceeded to steal second base. Cabrera then lined a single to center to plate Fiorentino and give the Tides a 7-6 lead.

Ross Wolf worked around a one-out single in the bottom of the frame to record his first save of the season.

The Mud Hens tied the score with two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning off of Tides closer Jim Miller (2-1), who suffered his second blown save of the season but earned the victory.

Cabrera finished with three hits to power Norfolk's 11-hit attack, while Oscar Salazar clubbed a two-run home run in the first inning to help power the offense. Salazar finished with two hits and three RBI in the contest, his first game back since injuring his left hand on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Tides improved to 31-15 and upped their record to 11-1 against the IL West this season.

The Tides will look to continue their winning ways on Friday night as they open up a four-game set against the Columbus Clippers. David Pauley (3-4, 4.23) is slated to take the hill for Norfolk, with first pitch from Huntington Park scheduled for 7:05.
