Tides win Sunday matinee

May 31, 2009
The Tides knocked off Columbus 7-3 Sunday afternoon to pick up their eighth straight win over the Clippers.

Justin Christian led the Tides offense with a three-run double in the second inning that gave Norfolk an early 4-0 lead. Oscar Salazar also slugged a two-run homer in the contest, his 10th long ball of the season.

Andy Mitchell (4-1) earned the win for the Tides in just his second start of the season. Mitchell surrendered three runs on six hits in six innings of work, walking two and striking out one. Kam Mickolio and Chris Ray then followed with three perfect innings of relief to help preserve the win.

With the win, Norfolk has now won eight straight games against Columbus dating back to last season, and the Tides are 14-1 against the IL West division this year.

The Tides wrap up their eight-game road trip at 7:05 Monday night, with RHP Radhames Liz slated to take the mound for Norfolk.
