TinCaps fall short, 4-1

Lollis pitches well but takes loss

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps lost to the Lake County Captains, 4-1, Thursday at Parkview Field. RHP Matt Lollis fired six strong innings but took the loss; he doubled at the plate.

Fort Wayne went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Jonathan Galvez and Daniel Meeley each went 2-for-4.

Casey Frawley homered to put the Captains on the board in the top of the third. In the fourth, Jason Smit smacked a two-out RBI triple to extend Lake County's lead to 2-0.

Lollis, who was inserted into the batting order because of a mistake on the lineup card involving the DH, roped a double into the right-field corner in the fourth inning. He was stranded at second base.

The TinCaps scored their only run in the bottom of the fifth. Danny Payne walked, stole second and scored two batters later on Meeley's RBI single.

Lake County padded its lead in the eighth inning when Argenis Martinez lifted a sacrifice fly. In the ninth, Greg Folgia puched a two-out RBI double to make it 4-1.

Lollis (2-1) took the loss despite only allowing two runs in six innings; he struck out six and walked one. Lake County RHP Clayton Cook (6-7) picked up the win and RHP Jose Flores snapped up his third save.

Fort Wayne dipped to 28-18 in the half, 64-52 for the season. The Captains upped their record to 22-24 in the second half, 64-52 for the year.

The TinCaps finish the three-game series against the Captains (Class-A Cleveland Indians) Friday at Parkview Field at 7:05 p.m. Fort Wayne LHP Mike Watt (5-4) goes to the hill against Lake County LHP Vidal Nuno (5-5).
