KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Aug. 29, 2012) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have promoted outfielder and first round draft pick Courtney Hawkins to the A-Advanced Winston-Salem Dash. Hawkins, whom the White Sox selected with the 13th overall pick in this June's draft, hit .308 (20-65) with four home runs and 15 RBI while slugging .631 in 16 games with the Intimidators. In a corresponding move, Kannapolis receives catcher Jose Barraza from Advanced Rookie Bristol.

Hawkins, 18, was named Texas High School Baseball Player of the Year after his senior season at Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. He stole the show on draft night when he performed an impromptu back flip in the MLB Network studios. He signed with the White Sox this summer and opened his career with Bristol, batting .272 in 38 games in the Appalachian League before being promoted to the Intimidators on Aug. 13. In his first week in Kannapolis, Hawkins recorded extra-inning game-winning hits in consecutive games against the West Virginia Power, including an Aug. 17 game in which he drove in a career-high four RBI in a 3-for-6 night at the plate, finishing a double shy of the cycle. Three games later, he collected a career-high four hits in Hagerstown on Aug. 20. Of Hawkins 20 hits with Kannapolis, 11 went for extra bases.

The promotion for Courtney Hawkins is one of several for White Sox outfield prospects today.
