Top Texas Leaguers extend streaks

Tuesday was just another afternoon at the office for the Double-A Texas League's top two hitting prospects.

Frisco shortstop Jurickson Profar, MLB.com's No. 6 prospect, singled and drove in a pair of runs to extend his hitting streak to 19 games in the RoughRiders' 9-3 win over visiting Midland. Only two players have had longer streaks this year: Toledo's Brad Eldred and Paul Hoilman of Peoria have both hit in 20 straight, with the latter's run ongoing.

Northwest Arkansas outfielder Wil Myers, the No. 16 prospect, homered in his fourth straight game (and fifth in his last six) in the Naturals' 9-4 loss to first-place Tulsa. Myers has at least one hit in 28 of his 29 games this season and leads the Texas League with a .339 average, 11 home runs, 27 runs scored and a .722 slugging percentage.

After grounding out to end the first and striking out to end the third, Profar came to the plate with men on second and third and two outs in the fifth. The 19-year-old Curacao native lashed a line drive to right, scoring both runners but was thrown out by Midland right fielder Jeremy Barfield after wandering too far past first base.

Profar last went without a hit against Arkansas on April 17 and last failed to reach base April 5, his second game of the season. The youngest player currently in Double-A, Profar has batted .293 during the hit streak. In four of the 19 games, he collected two hits, with just one in each of the other 15.

Myers went 1-for-3 with a walk and jacked his league-leading 11th of the season in the sixth inning, with Northwest Arkansas already trailing, 8-2. The blast came off Drillers left-hander Edwar Cabrera, who took a perfect game into the ninth inning against Corpus Christi earlier this season.

Behind Myers' power surge, the Naturals took three of four games from Tulsa and now trail the Drillers by five games for the Texas League North lead. Myers went 6-for-16 with a solo shot in each of the four contests. The 21-year-old Myers' four long balls in 16 at-bats account for one-eighth of the homers Tulsa has allowed as a team all year.

Next up for the Naturals is Springfield -- against whom Myers has three blasts and 11 RBIs in eight games already this season -- while Profar and Frisco, who lead the South Division, visit Corpus Christi.
