MONTGOMERY, ALA. (August 29, 2010) - Alex Torres struck out a season high 10 on Sunday afternoon as the Montgomery Biscuits (31-32) finished off a sweep of the Diamond Jaxx (28-35) at Riverwalk Stadium. Montgomery beat the Jaxx, 10-1. Montgomery jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back. The Biscuits won 16 out of the 24 meetings in 2010. After the sweep, the Jaxx will have at least a two game lead over Huntsville in the wildcard standings. The Jaxx entered play on Sunday with a 3 ½ game lead. Huntsville plays a double-header against Mobile on Sunday night.

Torres (11-6) is now 3-0 against the Jaxx this season and allowed just one run on four hits Sunday afternoon for the win. Steve Bray (7-11) lost his fourth straight start and could not escape the third inning. Bray surrendered eight runs on six hits. The Jaxx used five pitchers in the game.

Emeel Salem and John Matuila had three hits for Montgomery, while Drew Anderson and Henry Wrigley collected two hits. Anderson had a season high five RBI's in the game and hit his fifth homerun. Alex Liddi singled in the eighth inning to extend his hitting streak to seven straight games. Carlos Peguero is now by himself in first place in the Southern League, with 22 homeruns.

Again on Sunday, Montgomery scored first and pushed four runs across in the first inning. John Matulia doubled in Jose Ruiz to put the Biscuits up 1-0. Drew Anderson hit a 3-run homerun to right that made it 4-0 Biscuits. The homer by Anderson was first ruled a foul ball, but was changed to a homerun.

Montgomery scored four more runs in the bottom of the third inning to extend their lead to 8-0. John Matuilia, Drew Anderson, Matt Fields and Matt Spring had RBI's in the four-run bottom of the third.

The Biscuits added two more runs to extend their lead to 10-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning. John Matulia drove in a run with a single and Drew Anderson added his fifth RBI with a sacrifice fly.

Carlos Peguero finally got the Jaxx on the board in the top of the seventh, with his league leading 22nd homerun of the season. Peguero's homer made it 10-1 Montgomery.

The Diamond Jaxx will return to Pringles Park on Tuesday, August 31 for the final homestand of the season. The Jaxx will host the Mississippi Braves for three games and Chattanooga for four. LHP Anthony Vasquez (1-3, 2.70) makes the 7:05 start on Tuesday for the Jaxx, while RHP Erik Cordier (11-7, 3.71) starts for the Braves.
