Tosoni cranks Miracle homer in opener

Center fielder's rare dinger gives Fort Myers early edge over Dunedin

Rene Tosoni cranked a rare home run to lead Fort Myers over host Dunedin, 2-1, in the opener of their best-of-3 Florida State League playoff series Tuesday.

Tosoni, who had gone yard once in 42 games for the Miracle this year, homered to right field off the Blue Jays' Brad Mills with Juan Portes aboard in the first inning.

Cole Devries (1-0) scattered five hits and struck out three over 6 2/3 innings for the win. Carlos Gutierrez allowed a hit and fanned two in 1 1/3 frames, and Anthony Slama gave up three hits and a run but closed out the game in the ninth for the save.

Dunedin's Matthew Liuzza collected two hits, including a solo homer in the ninth and Luis Sanchez had three hits.

Mills (0-1) gave up two runs on seven hits and fanned seven in seven innings. More
